Like the children's club, the goal is to read 12 books over the summer. Twelve may seem like a lot, but you have 8 weeks to do it.
What counts as a book?
- any novel at your reading level
- manga/graphic novels
- non-fiction books
- e-books
- audiobooks/playaways/e-audio
How do you record your books?
You write short (100-200 words) reviews and submit them either in our branch (they have forms to write reviews) or online (the link will be up on July 4). You can see an example of good reviews on the review page. In general, just a short summary of the book and what you thought is what we're looking for but anything is fine as long as it's in your own words.
The best reviews will also be posted to our review page! If you'd rather not have your review posted, you can opt out of this when you submit your reviews.
What do you win?
Reading is its own reward! That being said, we're also going to give you prizes if you can make it to twelve books. If you can read only ONE book, you get a McDonalds ice cream coupon. Why not stop by your local branch on the way to McDonalds, have you and your friends all write a quick review and get free ice cream?
Once you read twelve books, you get to pick out a book of your choice. There is a variety to choose from.
You can also have a chance to win an EXTRA book by reviewing the Top Novel titles (see the scrolly thing above). I'll be doing a draw every week so review often!
All prizes must be picked up in the branch that you submit the reviews to. All branches are participating including the bookmobile, so make sure you know which branch is closest to you.
When does it start?
You can start submitting reviews July 4! The program runs until the last Friday in August.
One more thing...
I will also be doing the Summer Reading Challenge! I'm going to keep a running tally of how many books I read over the summer. If twelve books isn't a challenge for you, see if you can read more than ME!
