Cover Story

Check out the newly released cover for Warrior, the sequel to our Top Novel pick, Prophecy.

Gorgeous, right? I think I like it even better than Prophecy (but I may just have a thing for swords).

It's coming out in the fall and I can't wait!

9.5.13

Cover wow!

Check out the cover of the last book in the Divergent series!

*whistle* Now that's a cover!

It doesn't come out until October 22... can you wait that long?

27.3.13

Cover Trend: Underwater

As someone who is, let's say... mildly afraid of the ocean (to be generous), I find the underwater cover trend a little disconcerting. I like my books to be set firmly on land. A couple of covers I could ignore but this is just getting a little ridiculous.

Check out these covers on books that were recently ordered:

Are mermaids slowly but surely taking over the market? Are you into this trend or waiting for the next big thing?

Waiting on Wednesday

You know, I really thought I had already talked about Dream Thieves, but a quick scan of the ol' blog reveals that I haven't yet. Apologies if I have.

This is actually more of a WE HAVE A COVER post than a proper WoW post, as I can't seem to find a description of the actual book yet.

But isn't it pretty? You can put the first book, Raven Boys, on hold here. It has magic and boarding schools and rich boys.

7.11.12

cover love!

The cover for the sequel of Cinder by Marissa Meyer has been released and it is gorgeous! (No one is surprised). This time the story focuses on a Red Riding Hood mash-up, and the cover is perfect!

Can't wait!!

23.10.12

Cover love!

I'm loving the cover of Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill. Not only is it clear that the book is a romance set in London, the colours are to die for!

You can put a hold on this new title here. What covers are you loving lately?

Waiting on Wednesday: Cover Love Issue

Maggie Stiefvater just revealed the cover of her newest book being released in September:

It looks a bit... adult-y to me, like it could fit on a Neil Gaiman book. I was actually afraid it was not YA but it is. Phew! You can read the synopsis here.

As disappointed as I was in Crossed by Ally Condie, I still love the cover of her new book:

And finally a book that comes out next week. This is a little bit of a cheat because I'm not waiting on it, I've already read and loved it. Above by Leah Bobet is as gorgeously written as the cover is beautiful. I hope you read it.

Kill Order

Cover alert! Check out the new cover for the Maze Runner prequel. I love it just as much as the others! What do you think?

16.5.11

Cover Story: Death Cure

I love love loved Scorch Trials by James Dashner so I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the Maze Runner series, Death Cure.

Check out the cover below!

It's interesting to see the snow after Scorch Trials was full of desert... Can't wait! Death Cure is out in October.

16.3.11

Cover Story: Crossed

Wowza! Have you guys seen the cover for the sequel to Matched by Ally Condie?

I love how it compliments the cover of Matched and makes it clear that we can expect some butt kicking and rebellion in this book. Even though I didn't love Matched, I think I am definitely going to have to pick this up now!

Crossed is on shelves November 1, 2011.

26.1.11

Cover Story: City of Fallen Angels

Confession to make: I haven't read the Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare.
Another? I read Clockwork Angel and it didn't wow me. (*cringe* I know, I know! A lot of you love it)
One more? When I see covers like this it really makes me want to give this series another try.

Wowza! City of Fallen Angels is coming out in April but you can place holds now.

Cassie Clare fans, what do you think? Did you like Mortal Instruments more than Clockwork Angel? Should I give it a try?

19.1.11

Cover Story: Soulless by Christopher Golden

So if you look at this first cover, would you think it was about Zombies?

Uh... I know it's about a city... and a girl. And there's a tag with, 'The Dead Travel Fast' so maybe she's a necromancer?

Take a look at THIS cover:

Same tag, 'the dead travel fast', only this time it sends shivers up my spine because the bloody handprints make it clear that the dead travel fast TO KILL ME. How is this even a cover for the same book?! To be fair, I haven't read Soulless. It's on my looong to be read list. But the first cove barely makes me glance at it whereas the second cover makes it obvious that it's a gritty, messy, horrific book (one that I kind of want to read under my covers with the light on).

(after re-reading the summary, I now know it's about both necromancy AND zombies! So I suppose both covers do it justice)

I don't know. Forest of Hands and Teeth had a girl on the cover and I love those covers, I do, but I also think it means that zombie fans don't pick up those books. What do you guys think? Pretty cover or bloody cover?

12.1.11

Cover Story: The Power of Six

So the cover for the sequel to I Am Number Four has been released...

I.... am not feeling it. It looks a bit juvenile to me and I sort of hate the font. Maybe that was a bit harsh. Harsh but true!

I suppose they're trying to make them look like science fiction without screaming alien. But honestly? If I saw this book and knew nothing about it? I don't know if I'd turn it over to see what it was about.

Hopefully the movie cover (because let's not kid ourselves, this really is more about a movie franchise than a book) will be nicer.

What do you think? Am I being super harsh? Can science fiction covers be done well without looking cheesy? (I think the answer is yes!)

(I asked a fellow librarian. Her response: "... what is that supposed to be?" Glad I'm not the only one confused!)

5.1.11

Cover story (or, an extra WoW)

The cover for the new Jackson Pearce book, a modernization of Hansel and Gretel has been released. You'll remember Jackson Pearce from her fantastic adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood - Sisters Red. I loved that cover and I think I love this one too, even if it's a bit creepy.

Here's the description from Gooodreads:

Twelve years ago, Gretchen, her twin sister, and her brother went looking for a witch in the forest. They found something. Maybe it was a witch, maybe a monster, they aren’t sure—they were running too fast to tell. Either way, Gretchen’s twin sister was never seen again.

Years later, after being thrown out of their house, Gretchen and Ansel find themselves in Live Oak, South Carolina, a place on the verge of becoming a ghost town. They move in with Sophia Kelly, a young and beautiful chocolatier owner who opens not only her home, but her heart to Gretchen and Ansel.

Yet the witch isn’t gone—it’s here, lurking in the forests of Live Oak, preying on Live Oak girls every year after Sophia Kelly’s infamous chocolate festival. But Gretchen is determined to stop running from witches in the forest, and start fighting back. Alongside Samuel Reynolds, a boy as quick with a gun as he is a sarcastic remark, Gretchen digs deeper into the mystery of not only what the witch is, but how it chooses its victims. Yet the further she investigates, the more she finds herself wondering who the real monster is, and if love can be as deadly as it is beautiful.

Oooh, doesn't it sound good? The cover reminds me of the Linger and Shiver covers, with the branches making pictures. What do you think?
