Waiting on... Wednesday

This week's book is far from a rom-com! The Marbury Lens by Andrew Smith looks like a really interesting dark fantasy book.

the premise: the main character (Jack) is handed some glasses by a mysterious stranger who seems to know things about him. Through the lenses, Jack sees Marbury, a post-apocalyptic world where he's responsible for two boys. and his best friend is trying to kill him. The whole book sounds super dark though and it's been a while since I've read a good dark fantasy.

why I'm dying to read it: besides the fact that it has good reviews, it also has a real Neil Gaiman sort of feel where the character is transported to another, darker, world (think Coraline). I'm a bit nervous by the review "bloody and genuinely upsetting book packs an enormous emotional punch" (Publishers Weekly) since I usually avoid being upset while reading but I'm also super intrigued.

how long I have to wait: it's been released next week, so hopefully not too long.

while you're waiting check out: Interworld by Neil Gaiman, the story of a kid who can jump between universes. It's not as dark as Marbury but there's still some interesting consequences to changing worlds. There are tons of dark apocalyptic books out there, if that's more your style. I recently enjoyed Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan (although beware, there are zombies).
