Get Graphic!

If you're looking for new and awesome (and quick) things to read, consider picking up a graphic novel or manga. Not only are graphic novels filled with gorgeous illustrations, they also have the ability to tell a story in a really unique way. You can definitely write reviews on graphic novels/manga and put them toward getting to book 12. If you don't know where the graphic novels/manga are in your library, just ask at the desk and they'll be happy to show you.

When you think graphic novel, you might be thinking super heroes. While some of my very favourite graphic novels involve super heroes (like Watchmen and the Umbrella Academy), a lot of graphic novels deal with every day life and other issues. Some are about serious issues, like Persepolis about the Islamic revolution and some are ridiculously hilarious like Scott Pilgrim (which is being made into a movie!). Even books like Ender's Game and Twilight have a graphic novel version now!

For graphic novel readers out there... which are your favourite? What are you reading right now? I'm about to start volume 4 of Pluto by Naoki Urasawa and Osamu Tezuka which is a sort of futuristic detective story involving AI (and Astro boy!). I'm always looking for new recommendations so feel free to leave a comment (or if we don't have something in the library let me know too).

I really want to read the Twilight graphic novel! I read a graphic called Amulet and it had a really great and original plot to it!

I actually liked the Twilight graphic novel better than the book! The art is really pretty.

I'll have to check Amulet out - the guy who does those also does the Flight anthologies which are pretty much my favourite graphic novel anthologies EVER.
