Throwback Thursday

Today's book is one of my favourite romances - Annie On My Mind by Nancy Garden.

When did it debut? 1982

What's the deal? When it debuted, Annie on My Mind was a Big Deal. It was one of the first YA books to feature lesbian protagonists. A lot of people didn't like that and it was banned in a number of places. Nowadays, we have more books and TV shows featuring gay protagonists but Annie on my Mind helped pave the way. The story is basically a girl meets girl story. It's sweet and unfortunately realistic for the time. I think romance lovers will love it, regardless of orientation.

Why should I read it now? With a lot of books treating sexual orientation like it's not a big deal, it's interesting to read a book in which it definitely was a Big Deal. Pair this up with a contemporary GLBTQ read and see how it's changed.

You can put a hold on Annie on My Mind here.
