What's the deal? Jonas lives in a futuristic world where everything is under control. There's no pain or war or fear. Sounds good, right? Or does it? Obviously there's more going on than meets the eye and as Jonas finds out more, he becomes disenchanted with his world.
Why should I read it now? A lot of books like Matched by Ally Condie were seemingly inspired by The Giver. If you enjoy reading contemporary dystopian but want something different, give The Giver a try.
