Waiting on Wednesday

I had the pleasure of going to a library conference last week where people who are invested in library, book and information issues get together to talk, show off, and ask questions. Publishers are also there, showing off their latest and greatest and it's a good time to find out what's going to be new and hot.

Which brings me to my Waiting on Wednesday post! The lovely ladies at Penguin told me about The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey.

It's been called the Passage meets Ender's Game, which... what? Vampires... and... child soldiers...? Anyway, let's take a look at why I want to read this.

the premise: Basically dystopian with an alien invasion. As far as I can tell, no vampires or child soldiers in sight which is why I'm confused about the comparison to the Passage and Ender's Game. Maybe it's more the feel of the book than the plot.

why I'm dying to read it: Besides being told that it is amazing, it sounds a bit different from other dystopians I've come across. The reviews for this are a bit unreal, 'better written than the Hunger Games' and 'I've never blown through a book this long this quickly', for instance. So part of me is a little bit suspicious if it can possibly live up to this hype.

how long do I have to wait: We're looking at May for this one. It's not in the catalogue yet.

while you're waiting check out: I Am Number Four by Pitticus Lore and The Host by Stephenie Meyer are both alien-ish books that might appeal to the audience for this book.
